Legislation authored and sponsored by Senator Mike Nozzolio that would create a special distinctive license plate honoring the work of the national conservation organization “Ducks Unlimited” was signed into law today by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

“It was an honor to provide New York with the opportunity to recognize and honor the great work of Ducks Unlimited, an organization that has a long, deep and profound positive impact on our environment”, said Senator Nozzolio.  “I am extremely pleased that Governor Cuomo has signed this important recognition into law.”

“Ducks Unlimited”, continued Senator Nozzolio, “was founded in 1937 during the Dust Bowl when North America’s drought plagued waterfowl populations had plunged to unprecedented lows.  The organization’s mission has been habitat conservation throughout its history.  With almost 15,000 members in New York State, Ducks Unlimited has become one of New York’s top conservation organizations.”

Senator Nozzolio cited the tireless work of former New York State Ducks Unlimited President, Joey Nicosia from Newark, to enact this important statewide recognition for the organization.  Joey has been a member of Ducks Unlimited for nearly 30 years and has held numerous leadership positions in the organization.  Joey lives in Newark and is the owner of Joey’s Northside Grocery.  He has been an active member of the Newark community for his entire life.

The work of Ducks Unlimited has conserved over 44,000 acres of land and donated over $23 million on conservation projects.  Last year alone, Ducks Unlimited raised over a million dollars for conservation projects.
