State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer has announced $250,000 in state funding for the South Long Community Project.
The plan aims to transform an industrial part of the Village of Williamsville into a vibrant place to live, work and play with new housing opportunities, more walkable areas, and an improved existing and potential future parkland.
“I am pleased to announce that I have been able to secure major state investment to help transform the South Long Community,” said Ranzenhofer. “This project is an exciting opportunity to plan for a new South Long, and I am proud to play a role in the future of our Village.”
The South Long Community Project is a vision to ensure that redevelopment occurs in a manner that creates long-term value and benefits for area residents. The South Long neighborhood currently houses low intensity industrial uses. As land values rise, industrial uses may eventually relocate outside the Village.
Williamsville officials have been developing a plan for the neighborhood since May 2014.
“The infrastructure investment the State and the Village is making in the South Long Community creates long term social, environmental, and economic benefits for the community by improving existing parkland and creating new housing opportunities. This funding– secured by Senator Ranzenhofer– is critical to bringing the vision of the South Long Community Project to fruition,” said Village of Williamsville Mayor Brian Kulpa.
The total cost of the project is approximately $1.5 million. Currently, the project is in its final design phase. Construction is expected to start in 2017.
