State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer has announced $300,000 in state funding to help offset expenses from a major expansion project for the Clarence Fire District No. 1.  A feasibility study and assessment survey, conducted in 2008, determined the need for an expansion.

“Our volunteer firefighters play a vital role in our community, and I am committed to securing the necessary resources so that they are able to get the job done,” said Ranzenhofer.  “Today’s announced state investment will help to preserve these life-saving services for Clarence residents.”

“This project is important to better protect residents, as well as the safety and training for our volunteer firefighters.  Senator Ranzenhofer’s unwavering support for our volunteer firefighters is making a difference, and we greatly appreciate his efforts to secure state funding for this project,” said Clarence Fire District No. 1 Commissioner Jim Schlabach.

A 7,200 square-foot building addition will be constructed for three fire truck bays, office and storage space, a conference room and a fitness area.  Existing truck bays and storage areas will undergo renovations.  Restrooms will be upgraded to comply with the standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

A major component of the expansion is the creation of more space for firefighter training and physical fitness training.  Fifty percent of firefighter line of duty deaths occur each year due to cardiac injuries.

The expansion project is expected to be completed in July 2017.
