Senate approves Senator Venditto's legislation to return the Freeport Armory to the Village of Freeport

Senator Michael Venditto (R-C-I, Massapequa) announced today that the Senate voted unanimously to pass his bill S3823B, to return the Freeport Armory back to the Village of Freeport. In 1949 the Village of Freeport donated the Armory to the State to be used a National Guard facility. Since 2011 the facility has been unoccupied with the Village of Freeport seeking to use it to store their Department of Public Works equipment, especially in the event of an emergency.

“I am proud to announce that the Senate passed my bill to return the Freeport Armory to the Village of Freeport. The Village of Freeport has been asking for the return of the Armory ever since it closed in 2011 and with similar intergovernmental handovers done for Riverhead, Brookhaven, and Huntington there is precedence for a similar transfer,” said Senator Venditto

Venditto explained that “Under this legislation, not only can the Village move their Department of Public Works into the Armory, they will have the flexibility to utilize this facility as they see fit as their needs change. The bill awaits action by the State Assembly where it is sponsored by Assemblyman Brian Curran,”
