Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) announces $400,000 in state funding to be used for the installation of a propane fueling station at the Rush-Henrietta Central School District. The project will enable the district to convert its fleet of school buses from diesel to propane.
“The state’s investment in this worthwhile project will help the district in its effort to reduce fuel and maintenance costs while easing the burden on local taxpayers,” Gallivan said. “The conversion from diesel fuel to propane will also help protect our environment.”
For the past three years, the Rush-Henrietta Central School District has been taking incremental steps to use propane fuel in its 90 large school buses, but it has not had the refueling capacity required to fully make the desired change. Now, that worthy goal is in sight.
"We are very appreciative of Senator Gallivan's assistance in securing this State and Municipal Facilities Program grant," says Dr. Ken Graham, Rush-Henrietta superintendent. "This funding will allow us to advance our school district's commitment to transition from a diesel fuel-based transportation system to a more economical and environmentally friendly propane-based system."
Work on the $500,000 facility is scheduled to begin in April with completion expected by November 2017. The new fueling station, which will include a storage tank and pumps, will be located at the district’s transportation garage at 1133 Lehigh Station Road.
