Senator Gallivan Applauds Grants to Enhance State Parks & Historic Sites

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) says nearly $57,000 in state grants have been awarded to organizations dedicated to the stewardship and promotion of Knox Farm State Park and Letchworth State Park.  The grants are funded through the Environmental Protection Fund and will be supplemented by local and private funding.  The funds will support Friends Groups in order to enhance public access and recreational opportunities.  

“Our state parks are among the best in the nation and we are fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who help support and promote these natural treasures,” Gallivan said.  “This public-private partnership will attract more people to Letchworth, Knox Farm and other parks and historic sites across the state.”

Under the Park and Trail Partnership Program, Friends of Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora will receive $36,000 to complete the restoration and painting of the Main House in order to enhance the site’s appeal as an event space.  Meanwhile, Friends of Letchworth State Park will receive $20,980 for materials and training to increase volunteer recruitment to better steward the park and its trails.

In all, the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the nonprofit group Parks & Trails New York, will administer $450,000 in state grants to 20 organizations across New York.
