Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) and Assembly Member Michael Kearns (D, West Seneca) joined local leaders and veterans in designating a portion of the state highway system in West Seneca as “West Seneca Veterans Memorial Highway.” The designation applies to that portion of state route 277, Union Road, located within the town. The legislation was sponsored by Senator Gallivan and Assemblymember Kearns and signed into law by Governor Cuomo.
“We owe all of our veterans a debt of gratitude for their service to this great nation,” Gallivan said. “This highway designation is a symbol of our appreciation and a lasting tribute to the dedication and sacrifice made by the brave men and women from West Seneca who have helped to keep our country safe. As we prepare to mark Veterans Day, I am honored to dedicate this highway in recognition of their service.”
“Today we pay tribute to our Veterans and say thank you for their sacrifice and service,” Kearns said. “It is an honor to recognize our Veterans’ hard work in promoting peace and safeguarding our freedom.”
The legislation was supported by West Seneca Supervisor Sheila Meegan and members of the Town Board.
“On behalf of the Town of West Seneca and all of our military families, I want to thank Senator Gallivan and Assemblyman Kearns for making this road dedication a reality,” said Meegan. “Being a part of a military family, as a daughter and now as a mother, I know the importance in recognizing all those who served and continue to serve our great country.”
Crews from the New York State Department of Transportation will install and maintain ceremonial signage along the highway to acknowledge the special designation.
“On behalf of Governor Cuomo, we are honored and humbled to be able to pay tribute to all of our veterans today,” said New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Matthew J. Driscoll. “The official designation on State Route 277 as West Seneca Veterans Memorial Highway will always remind travelers of the dedicated and courageous service of the men and women of this community who died while bravely serving his country.”
The dedication ceremony was held outside West Seneca Town Hall and included members of American Legion Post and the West Seneca VFW Post.
