ALBANY, NY - Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) honored Virginia Krebs of Springville on Tuesday with one of the New York State Senate’s highest honors, the “Woman of Distinction” award. Krebs is being recognized for her work with the Springville Concord Elder Network and other community organizations.
“Virginia shares her expertise and her love of community in numerous ways,” Gallivan said. “Her commitment to the residents of the Springville area goes well beyond her work with seniors. She serves on agency boards and committees throughout the community and is deserving of recognition for her many accomplishments.”
Krebs serves as coordinator at the Springville Concord Elder Network, an organization that helps people age in place within their home community. She is also Chairwoman of the Erie County Senior Services Advisory Board, Town of Concord Senior Center Advisory Board, past President of the East Concord Home Bureau, past President of the Monday Club of Springville, past Treasurer of the Springville Women’s Club, past Vice President of the Town of Concord’s Industrial Development Agency, past Member of the Board of Governors at SUNY Empire State College and a Trustee on the Concord Library Board.
“As an advocate for community based elder services to ensure older residents have the choice to “age in place,” I am honored by this prestigious award from New York State,” Krebs said. “I am thrilled that Senator Gallivan shares my recognition of the value and vitality seniors bring to our neighborhoods. I appreciate the people and agencies that are working together to foster healthy aging for giving me the opportunity to earn this award.”
Krebs was recently voted Citizen of the Year by the Springville Area Chamber of Commerce and was presented with the NYS Business and Professional Women’s Association New Careerist Award. Krebs and her husband, Bill, have 3 children and 6 grandchildren.
Each year, the 63 members of the New York State Senate nominate one individual from their district to be enshrined alongside the many historical women whose contributions have had a positive impact on our state. Some of these trailblazing females include: Susan B. Anthony, Lucille Ball, Harriet Tubman, and Emma Willard, among others, all with strong links to New York State.
“This designation is an opportunity to honor and recognize contemporary women for their achievements and to thank them for the pride and dedication they bring to our communities,” Gallivan said.
Senator Gallivan presented Krebs with the “Woman of Distinction” award at a special ceremony in the Senate Chamber on Tuesday, May 10, 2016.
