$50,000 Secured by Senator Ritchie to Improve Access to St. Lawrence River in Louisville for Kayakers
July 20, 2016
State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $50,000 to help install kayak docks in the Town of Louisville, an addition that will help boost tourism and help improve recreational opportunities on the St. Lawrence River.
“There’s so much to enjoy in the North Country—especially in the summer months,” said Senator Ritchie.
“Through this project, we’ll be giving people not only another way to take advantage of the beautiful St. Lawrence River, but also to get outside and get active. Efforts, like this, are so important to building strong communities and improving tourism, and I couldn’t be more pleased to lend my support.”
“Kayaking is becoming tremendously popular, and we’ve seen an increasing number of residents and visitors partake in the sport in recent years,” said Louisville Town Supervisor Larry Legault.
“We are very fortunate in Louisville to have access to the great St. Lawrence River, and this project will help us further tap into its potential to attract people to our region, as well as provide more opportunities for individuals and families to enjoy the waterway. We thank Senator Ritchie for her assistance in securing this funding, and for being part of the effort to improve the North Country for those who live here, as well as those who choose to visit.”
Utilizing funds secured by Senator Ritchie, the Town plans to install four handicapped accessible kayak docks that will be placed at four locations along the St. Lawrence River.
Final release of funds is subject to state approval.
