FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE CAPITOL: FFA STUDENTS VISIT SENATOR RITCHIE IN ALBANY

State Senator Patty Ritchie welcomed students from local FFA chapters to the Capitol this week, where they joined her for a firsthand look at what she’s doing in Albany to support farmers and shared what they’re learning today, that will help the agriculture industry succeed in the future.

“For FFA members, their involvement in the organization is more than just learning about farming—it’s about cultivating skills like teamwork and leadership that will help them continue to achieve success in the future,” said Senator Ritchie, who chairs the Senate Agriculture Committee.

“I’d like to thank students who visited me in Albany not only for taking the time to share why agriculture is important to them, but also for the work they are already doing to make sure our state’s leading industry continues to grow.”

FFA members visiting Albany represented chapters from a number of school districts, including Belleville Henderson, South Jefferson, Carthage and Canton. Students began their day by attending a Senate Agriculture Committee meeting and later, were honored on during the day’s Senate Session with a Resolution recognizing them for their achievements and naming February 20th to 27th “FFA Week in the State of New York.” 

In addition, one student, Katie Killenbeck of South Jefferson, spoke about the importance of agriculture at a press conference where Senator Ritchie unveiled “Planting Seeds,” her new plan to support the work of farm families and grow the future of agriculture in New York State.
