Copenhagen Girls State Champion Soccer Team Scores New Uniforms Thanks to Senator Ritchie
September 19, 2016
State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has delivered $5,000 in special funding to the Copenhagen Golden Knights Girls Soccer Team for the purchase of new uniforms and other supplies.
Through the funding secured by Senator Ritchie, the girls team was also able to pay for a trip to the State Capitol earlier this year, where they were honored with an official Senate Resolution recognizing their achievement of becoming New York State Class D Champions.
“From taking home a state title to representing the North Country as young ambassadors, the girls soccer team at Copenhagen has been an inspiration across the region,” said Senator Ritchie. “That’s why I am happy to have been able to secure the funding allowing them to get the new uniforms and wish them the best for another successful season.”
“Our student athletes have learned that hard work both on and off the field pays off,” said district superintendent Scott Connell. “Being a small school district with limited resources, we are grateful to Senator Ritchie for being able to provide this funding for the new girls team uniforms and helping meet other expenses.”
Last November, the Golden Knights Girls Soccer Team shutout Wheatland-Chili—2 to nothing—to win the Class D crown.
