Game On! Ritchie Secures Funds for Heuvelton Sports
November 25, 2016
As teams across the North Country gear up for the winter sports season, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $12,000 to support athletic programs in the Heuvelton Central School District.
Funding delivered by Senator Ritchie will help the district purchase a weight machine and exercise bikes, warm-up jackets and shirts for the two-time state champion Lady Bulldogs basketball team and new basketballs. In addition, funds will also be used to purchase banners and a sign commemorating the success of the Lady Bulldogs basketball team.
“From bringing home state titles to serving as young ambassadors for the area, student athletes are learning the value of hard work and realizing that they can accomplish more by working together,” said Senator Ritchie. “I’m pleased to be able to support our local athletes and help them build upon their successes, allowing them to reach even greater milestones in their daily lives.”
“Athletics are such an important part of the overall school experience for our students,” said Heuvelton Central School Athletic Director Dave Steele. “Our sports teams have a strong tradition of success and we are extremely grateful to Senator Ritchie for acknowledging the efforts of our student athletes through this funding.”
Senator Ritchie’s support for North Country athletic programs builds upon her past efforts to recognize the importance of athletics and the accomplishments of local teams. Earlier this year, she announced $20,000 to support athletic programming in schools throughout the North Country, including those at the Massena, Canton and Morristown Central School Districts.
