In an effort to support music programs in local schools, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $20,000 to help the state champion Central Square Central School District Redhawk Regiment Marching Band purchase new uniforms.
Recently, the Redhawk Regiment Marching Band competed against nine other bands from across New York State at the 42nd annual New York State Field Band Conference championships, held at Syracuse University. There, they were named State Champions for Small School Class 2 Bands and took home the coveted “Governor’s Cup.”
“As their successes have shown, the members of Central Square’s Redhawk Regiment Marching Band aren’t just talented—they also know the importance of practice, dedication and working as a team,” said Senator Ritchie.
“I am pleased to be able to provide the band with the funding needed to help purchase new uniforms, and wish them the best of luck as they continue to build on their past achievements.”
“Here in the Central Square Central School District, we know the importance of music education,” said District Superintendent Joe Menard.
“We are glad that Senator Ritchie also realizes how key extracurricular programs, like the Redhawk Regiment Marching Band, are to student development and we can’t thank her enough for this funding, which will help to ensure our band continues to look sharp during their performances.”
In addition to securing funding to help the Redhawk Regiment purchase new uniforms, Senator Ritchie also recently recognized the band with a Proclamation honoring students for their capture of the state championship and the Governor’s Cup.
