"Hometown Heroes" Honored in Display at Local Libraries: Senator Ritchie's Weekly Column

Patty Ritchie

September 12, 2016

I am honored to pay tribute to the number of men and women who have proudly served our country from across the North Country and Central New York as part of my Veterans Hall of Fame displays, now on exhibit in local libraries across the 48th District.

Included among the tens of thousands of service men and women from our region are dozens of veterans across Oswego, St. Lawrence and Jefferson Counties, who have defended our freedoms from wars and conflicts, many making the ultimate sacrifice and each with their own personal story of valor, bravery and heroism.

The posters that are in public libraries across Northern and Central New York honoring the 36 “Hometown Heroes” in this year’s Veterans Hall of Fame include biographies and a history of each person from the community who so bravely served our country.

The sacrifices these men and women made while serving as members of the United States Armed Forces and the contributions they made  to their communities following their military service should be something that is never taken for granted.

What better way to honor those who have made such a tremendous commitment to our country and teach our younger generation about the impact each veteran made than to get to know your hometown heroes.

That’s why I want to encourage everyone to take a brief moment out of your day to drop by one of the several libraries throughout the region to learn about the service and the sacrifices members of my Veterans Hall of Fame program have made.

I am proud to be the state senator who represents the troops and families of the 10th Mountain Division, as well as the more than 20,000 veterans who make their homes in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties, and will continue to stand up and be an advocate for those who have and continue to serve our country.
