HONORING OUR LOCAL HEROES: RITCHIE RECOGNIZES THIRTY-SIX CNY, NNY VETERANS
May 13, 2016
Thirty-six individuals from throughout Central and Northern New York were honored Thursday for their contributions to their country and their communities at a special New York State Senate “Veterans Hall of Fame” ceremony hosted by State Senator Patty Ritchie.
“This year’s Veterans Hall of Fame honorees represent such a diverse range of service—including Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, as well as nearly every significant theater from WWII Europe and the Pacific to Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Senator Ritchie.
“And, just as important, they have gone on from their military careers to serve our region, making a difference in so many communities throughout Central and Northern New York. I’m humbled to be able to recognize them and their remarkable contributions.”
Held at the Edick-Hamlink VFW Post 369 in Mexico, Thursday’s ceremony also featured a special presentation by the 10th Mountain Division Color Guard, as well as remarks by Colonel Donald L. Paquin, Commander, 10th Mountain Division Artillery. In addition, local students also played a role, with the Mexico High School Girls’ Select Choir singing the National Anthem, and scouts from Boy Scout Troop 825 leading attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.
