It’s often said that great things are rarely done alone, and that by working together, we can have an even bigger impact when it comes to achieving personal aspirations, or a collective goal.  That’s the thinking behind the Upstate Women’s Leadership Council (UWLC), a group formed last year that seeks to increase opportunities for the personal and professional advancement of women throughout the Central and Northern New York regions.

On June 28th, the UWLC will host its next event—‘Ladies Who Lead’—at SUNY Oswego.  The evening will feature a special keynote address by SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher, followed by a panel discussion that will include Chancellor Zimpher and the following local trailblazers:

  • SUNY Oswego President Deborah Stanley;
  • Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization Executive Director Denise Young;
  • State Supreme Court Judge Mary Farley; and
  • CNY Central Meteorologist—and SUNY Oswego graduate—Molly Matott.

During the event, women from throughout our region will also be honored for their leadership, including young women from high schools throughout Jefferson, Oswego and St. Lawrence Counties.

‘Ladies Who Lead’ will take place on June 28th at SUNY Oswego’s Marano Campus Center, beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Those who plan to attend are encouraged to pre-register here, or by calling (315) 782-3418.  Please note, parking for the event will be available in lots C-8 East and C-8 West located off of Washington Boulevard in Oswego. Directions and information on where to park are available here, or by calling the number above.

The UWLC’s last event, which featured a discussion on leadership with Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, helped bring over 200 area women together to talk about ways we can all achieve greater goals.  I am hopeful our next event will be just as successful, and encourage anyone looking to make career connections and seize new opportunities to attend ‘Ladies Who Lead’ on June 28th.
