In an effort to increase outdoor recreational opportunities in the North Country, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $50,000 to assist with the cost of a new playground at Scenic View Park in the Village of Alexandria.

“From giving children opportunities to get active to allowing them to play and use their imaginations, playgrounds can be very beneficial when it comes to the health and development of our young people,” said Senator Ritchie.

“I am pleased to be able to help the Village of Alexandria as they work to enhance their community and create more opportunities for children and families to enjoy our region.”

“We all can recall memories made on playgrounds at a young age, and now, the children of our local community will have that same opportunity in a new and improved space,” said Village of Alexandria Mayor Danielle Miller.

“This project would not have been possible without Senator Ritchie’s help, and we thank her for recognizing just how important increased recreational opportunities are to the children and families of the North Country.”

The effort to construct a new playground in the Village was led by the area’s Public and Youth Improvement Team, also known as “PAYIT.”

“PAYIT’s goal is to  improve the quality of life for those who live in Alex Bay,” said Donna Hutton, a founding member of the organization.

“Our group recognized that after 20 years, the community needed a new place for children and families to play. This project became a reality because of the dedication of so many people in our community, and we can’t thank Senator Ritchie enough for joining us in our effort.”

Final release of funds is subject to state approval.
