Ritchie Applauds Positive Next Step in Transfer of FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant
December 8, 2016
State Senator Patty Ritchie today applauded the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval of the transfer of Oswego County’s FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant from Entergy to Exelon.
“The FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant is an economic engine for Central New York that not only supports the careers of more than 600 dedicated people, but also pumps hundreds of millions of dollars into our economy annually and serves as an integral part of the state’s overall energy grid,” said Senator Ritchie.
“I would like to thank those who have been part of our effort to keep FitzPatrick open, including Governor Cuomo and the many other state and local leaders who I have worked with to see that this facility is protected. I applaud the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval of the transfer of the plant, which takes us one step closer toward that goal.”
Last month, the New York State Public Service Commission approved the plant’s transfer. The transfer is still awaiting approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and recently, Senator Ritchie sent a letter to the NRC urging swift approval of the sale.
