Ritchie Celebrates Opening of JCC's Dr. David G. Gregor Building

State Senator Patty Ritchie joined Jefferson Community College (JCC) officials and community leaders Monday to mark the opening of the Dr. David G. Gregor Building.

In March of 2016, the College began a major renovation of the former Dewey Library Building, transforming it into the David G. Gregor Building. At the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new space, Senator Ritchie spoke about JCC’s beginnings, from a time when all classes were taught at Watertown’s old Lansing Street Elementary School, to today’s campus that boasts 10 buildings and nearly 4,000 students.  

“Since its beginnings, JCC has always been a place where students could learn the skills they needed to become successful, and have bright futures,” said Senator Ritchie, who presented JCC President Dr. Carole McCoy with a photo of the Lansing Street Elementary School during the ceremony.

“With the Dr. David G. Gregor Building, we are seeing that tradition continue.  I would like to congratulate all who played a role in making this important project possible, and wish the College, as well as its students the best of luck as they prepare to use this new space.”

Made possible in part through state funding Senator Ritchie advocated for, the Dr. David G. Gregor Building—which is named after Dr. David Gregor, a surgeon and leader in the local medical community who practiced in Watertown for nearly 40 years—houses paramedic and nursing labs, a new simulation room, four new classrooms, new office space, and student study as well as lounge areas.
