July 20, 2016
State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $20,000 to assist the Black River/Evans Mills Police Department with the purchase of a new vehicle.
Recently, the Department has sought to replace its 2007 Jeep with a newer vehicle that can better meet the needs of the community and improve officer safety.
“Every day, members of law enforcement are on our roads working to protect our communities from danger and responding to emergency situations,” said Senator Ritchie.
“It’s important that when they are doing their jobs, we look out for their safety too. Not only will this funding help the Black River/Evans Mills Police Department purchase a new vehicle that will help them operate more safely and efficiently, it will also help save taxpayer dollars.”
“Over the years, our Jeep has been aging fast, and it has become harder meet the needs of our community while using this vehicle,” said Black River/Evans Mills Police Chief Steven Wood.
“When we asked for help Senator Ritchie listened, and we cannot thank her enough for securing this funding, which will help us to continue to protect the people of Black River and Evans Mills.”
Senator Ritchie’s securing of funds for the Black River/Evans Mills Police Department continues her work to support emergency responders throughout the region she represents. Last month, Senator Ritchie announced $650,000 in support to purchase emergency radios and other critical emergency equipment for fire departments and first responders across Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties.
