State Senator Patty Ritchie joined with local leaders and community members Wednesday to celebrate the new Allegiant Air flights between the Ogdensburg International Airport and locations in Florida that will help draw more tourists to the region, boost the local economy and create new opportunities in the North Country.
“From attracting more tourists to our region to giving people locally—as well as those from nearby Canada—more options for travel, Allegiant Air’s new service at the Ogdensburg International Airport will help open up the North Country to tremendous new opportunities for growth,” said Senator Ritchie.
“I have been proud to support these developments at the airport and am looking forward to seeing how the new service boosts our region.”
Last year, a bill sponsored by Senator Ritchie was signed into law that helped open up the Ogdensburg International Airport to the low-cost airline Allegiant Air, which will now offer direct flights to and from two locations in Florida. Senator Ritchie’s measure (S.5861) paved the way for a runway and terminal expansion needed to handle larger planes of Allegiant Air, which could draw as many as 40,000 Canadian travelers from Ottawa and other airports to our region.
