RITCHIE MEASURE TO HELP IMPROVE ACCESS TO OSWEGO RIVER PASSES SENATE

State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced that her legislation to help improve waterfront access and enhance recreational opportunities in the Town of Granby has passed the State Senate.

Under the measure (S.6756-A), the City of Fulton would transfer roughly 8 acres of waterfront parkland to the Town of Granby, a move that would allow the Town to pursue changes that would help residents to more easily access the Oswego River.

“Central New York is home to so many waterways and natural resources that enhance our local communities and provide people with opportunities to get outside and take part in activities like boating, fishing and many others,” said Senator Ritchie.

“Through this legislation, local leaders will be able to move forward with plans to provide the public with new—and improved—access to one of our region’s scenic gems.”

The measure is a priority for local leaders who are seeking new ways to provide residents with access to the waterway. 

“From attracting tourists to providing expanded opportunities for outdoor activities, our local waterways benefit our region in so many ways—and they can only continue to do so if the public has easy access to them,” said Town of Granby Supervisor Ed Williamson.

“We would like to thank Senator Ritchie for recognizing just how critical it is for the Town to pursue these changes, which will help everyone more easily enjoy all our community has to offer.”

The measure was sent to the Assembly, where it is sponsored by Assemblyman Will Barclay.
