In an effort to protect public health and clean up our region, State Senator Patty Ritchie is announcing she will host another no-cost waste tire disposal event on October 15th in Canton.

The event—which is being made possible by special funding secured by Senator Ritchie and is being co-hosted with St. Lawrence County Highway Department—will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the County Human Services Building, located at 80 State Highway 310 in Canton.

“This time of year, people are doing fall yard work and making an extra effort to get rid of waste and debris, like unused tires, that are not only unsightly but can be a breeding source for as many as one million disease carrying mosquitoes,” said Senator Ritchie.

“Often times, disposing of items like old tires can be expensive. That’s why I am encouraging people across St. Lawrence County to take advantage of my upcoming free waste tire disposal event, which helps protect the environment and reduces the risks associated with exposure to mosquitoes.”

The upcoming tire drop off builds upon the  Senator’s past efforts to protect public health and keep backyards, roadsides and the environment clean. More than 50,000 tires have been disposed of for free in St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Oswego Counties since Senator Ritchie initiated the events in 2013.

At the October 15th event, each household will be allowed to dispose of up to eight tires with the usual $15 fee being waived. Please note that tractor tires will not be accepted and all tires must be removed from rims.
