For three consecutive years as part of the New York State budget, the WNY Children’s Psychiatric Center in West Seneca will remain open through the 2016-17 fiscal year. On Wednesday, state and local officials stood alongside family members and advocates of WNYCPC to once again stress the importance of keeping the West Seneca facility separate from the Buffalo Psychiatric Center adult facility. The rally, organized by Assemblyman Mickey Kearns, follows an attack of a 14-year-old girl by an outpatient of the Buffalo Psychiatric Center last weekend. Legislators at the press event reinforced their commitment to finding a permanent solution to keep WNYCPC open.
A letter is attached outlining the agreement between the Office of Mental Health and the WNYCPC. A press release about the event is also attached.
