Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I – North Tonawanda) today presented oversized checks totaling $20,000 to Monroe County police departments. The funding, secured by Senator Ortt in this year’s State Budget, is in support of public safety efforts.
The Town of Ogden Police Department received $10,000 in funding. The department plans to purchase body cameras and bulletproof vests for patrol officers. The body cameras will record interactions between the officer and public and help to increase accountability. They can also be used to gather video evidence at crime scenes. The bulletproof vests will help protect the officers as they protect the public during dangerous incidents and possible active shooter situations.
The Brockport Police Department also received $10,000 for public protection efforts. The department is purchasing enhanced body armor, ballistic shields and ballistic helmets for its officers. The protective equipment will help the officers defend themselves as they put their lives at risk to keep the public safe.
This year’s funding is in addition to public protection and educational funding secured by the Senator in the 2015-16 State Budget.
