During a ceremonial check presentation today, Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I – North Tonawanda) delivered a total of $30,000 in state funding to help protect members of the public and support programs and services in Niagara County.
The Niagara Falls Police Department and the North Tonawanda Police Department received $10,000 each. The NFPD plans to purchase new bulletproof vests for its officers who often put themselves in harm’s way. As members of the police force patrol the streets and respond to potentially dangerous incidents, the bulletproof vests will help protect the officers while they protect the safety of the public.
The North Tonawanda Police Department will be purchasing surveillance cameras to help fight against crime and operate more efficiently and effectively. Several video cameras will be installed throughout the downtown area, and will allow the department to investigate and solve crime in a timelier manner. The cameras will also help to document, deter, and reduce crime in the city.
Community Missions of Niagara Frontier also received $10,000 in state funding in support of its Parole Re-Entry program. The program provides support services for individuals who are released from incarceration and transitioning back into the community. Services include cognitive behavioral programs, employment readiness, connections to healthcare and housing, educational opportunities, addiction treatment, mentoring programs and parole support groups.
Earlier this week, Senator Ortt delivered $10,000 each to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and the Lockport Police Department, and $15,000 to the county’s DA’s Office. The money was secured by Senator Ortt in the 2016-17 State Budget in addition to public protection funding secured last year.
