ALBANY, NY—Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park) today released the following statement regarding the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance’s Decision to combine all property tax rebate checks under $50 with a new round of checks expected to be sent later this year:
“To withhold a single dime from deserving New York taxpayers is absolutely outrageous. I understand that the State is trying to save on ‘administrative costs,’ but this is money that hardworking New Yorkers are owed and it is not up to the state to decide how much money is significant to homeowners.
Further, the burden should absolutely not be placed on the homeowners to chase down the funds they were promised. It is not only disingenuous, it is irresponsible and I absolutely understand the frustrations expressed by so many of my constituents. I call on the NYS Department of Tax and Finance to reconsider their decision and work to ensure that each and every homeowner who is owed a refund gets it in a timely manner.”
