Have you applied for your STAR exemption yet? The March 1st deadline to apply for your School Tax Assessment Relief exemption is just around the corner!
New York’s STAR program is a tax relief program, which provides homeowners with a partial exemption from school property taxes. Last year, I fought to ensure that our State Budget fully funded the program to ensure real relief for taxpayers and I encourage you to take advantage of this money-saving exemption.
If you've already applied for Basic STAR, generally you will not need to reapply, unless your permanent residence has changed. If you are 65 or over, you may even be eligible for additional savings through Enhanced STAR.
To determine your eligibility, find your assessor and print your application, click here. If you have questions, I encourage you to contact the Department of Tax and Finance or your local assessor.
