STATEMENT OF THE SENTENCING OF DEAN SKELOS

ISSUE:
- Ethics Reform
ALBANY, NY—State Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park) released the following statement regarding the sentencing of former Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos:
“It is a sad day when public officials put their own self interest ahead of those they serve. As I said when Sheldon Silver was sentenced, today’s verdict absolutely must spark real ethics reform in Albany and beyond.
Once again, that starts with implementing term limits and a requiring the forfeiture of public pensions by those found guilty of a felony. I have long co-sponsored legislation that would enact these reforms—reforms that would undoubtedly serve as a real deterrent to corruption. Restoring the public’s faith in their government must be the number one priority going forward.”
