YORKTOWN, NY - Yesterday, Senator Terrence Murphy and Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that New York has committed $2.5 million to build or improve thirteen playgrounds at eleven of New York's State Parks. Among them, it was announced that Franklin D. Roosevelt Park in Yorktown will see a new playground constructed at Parking Lot 6, one of the most popular picnic areas in FDR park.

"This is great news for one of the Hudson Valley's natural treasures," Senator Murphy said. "As a lifelong resident of Yorktown I remember when FDR was Mohansic Park. The addition of this state-of-the-art playground will bring an added attraction for residents and visitors to enjoy."

The park improvements are part of the Governor's goal to modernize 100 State Park playgrounds by 2020 and build on the Connect Kids to Parks program.

Governor Cuomo added, "Playgrounds are important gateways to nature for many children that can lead to a life-long appreciation of New York's majestic natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities at our great state parks. These improvements are part of the extensive upgrades we are making at parks across the state and will help connect the next generation of New Yorkers to the great outdoors."

State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey said, "I'm grateful to Governor Cuomo for his efforts to draw more young people to the great outdoors, and investing in modern recreational facilities they need."

The playground is expected to be completed by next summer.
