Murphy partners with Croton to shed their meds

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY - Since taking office last year, Senator Terrence Murphy has been fighting to keep drugs and drug dealers from flooding our neighborhoods. Part of his plan in the war against drugs is to dispose of dangerous prescription medications. Earlier today, Senator Murphy partnered with the Village of Croton-on-Hudson, the Croton Police Department, and the Croton Community Coalition to bring his "Shed the Meds" program to the Croton area.
 
"The cost in human lives of prescription medications ruining our communities is staggering," Senator Murphy said. "With a drug epidemic invading our neighborhoods and schools we have to be more vigilant for the sake of our families and children. Removing hazardous drugs is another step in the right direction. 'Shed the Meds' offers communities the opportunity to dispose of their expired medications in a safe and responsible manner.""'The Shed the Meds' program helps ensure that old and unwanted drugs do not wind up back on the street or in the hands of children," said Croton-on-Hudson Police Chief Anthony Tramaglini. "It also helps protect our environment. Too many people think that flushing away their old medications will not do any harm. They forget that these drugs can get into our water system."
 
"In light of the escalating drug crisis, it is important for us to eliminate as many potentially dangerous drugs as we can," said Laurie Dean, Croton Community Coalition Chairwoman and Coordinator. "The Croton community is happy to support Senator Murphy and the "Shed the Meds' program."
Safe disposal helps protect the environment and eliminates the risk of these drugs getting into the hands of small children or those who might misuse them. Improper disposal of medications, such as pouring them down the drain or flushing them down the toilet, can potentially pollute local waterways.

Brewster - Thursday, July 28 at the old Village Offices, 208 Main Street near Peaceable Hill Road, Brewster.
 
Peekskill - Tuesday, August 9 at Hayes Plaza, outside Field Public Library, 4 Nelson Avenue, Peekskill.
 
Sleepy Hollow - Thursday, August 11 at the Village of Sleepy Hollow Police Department, 28 Beekman Avenue, Sleepy Hollow.
 
Yorktown - Wednesday, August 17 at Jefferson Village (parking lot area), Hill Blvd.
 
Somers - Friday, August 26 at the Somers Police Department, 100 Primrose Street/Route 139, Somers.
