HAWTHORNE, NY - Not even the threat of rain could put a damper on the good news Senator Terrence Murphy brought with him to the 2016 Mount Pleasant Day Street Fair and Car Show. Senator Murphy presented Mt. Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi with a check for $500,000 to support the downtown revitalization of the Hawthorne business district.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to work with Supervisor Fulgenzi, Chief Oliva, the Town Board and all the residents of Mount Pleasant to move this project forward," Senator Murphy said. "When I was a councilman in Yorktown, the number one issue was economic development. I am here to let you know I am committed to the revitalization of the downtown Mount Pleasant business district. This project will mean more jobs and improved quality of life for everyone."

"We started a conversation with Senator Murphy about revitalizing the downtown area about a year ago, and he's been on board ever since," said Carl Fulgenzi, Mt. Pleasant Town Supervisor. "This grant will help give the downtown area a new look that will benefit our residents and business owners. I accept this check on behalf of the people of Mt. Pleasant and look forward to a few more as we continue to work with Senator Murphy to improve our community and bring more business to the downtown area."

Residents and visitors were impressed with artist renderings of the down town area, which depicted reconstructed and refurbished buildings along Elwood Avenue.

Sponsored by the Hawthorne Fire Department and Thornwood-Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, the 2016 Mount Pleasant Day Street Fair and Car Show featured classic cars, live music, rides for children and forty-eight vendors representing local restaurants and delicatessens.
