Murphy wants answers on massive blackout gripping northern Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess

YORKTOWN, NY - In response to the explosion and fire at the Mahopac NYSEG Substation at Secor Road that has left tens of thousands without power, State Senator Murphy issued the following statement:

"From the numbers reported by NYSEG there are close to 65,000 people without electricity right now in northern Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess. Unfortunately, we have not heard from NYSEG about any of this and had to find out ourselves online. Stay tuned for more. I am working on this to find the answer of why it happened, to make sure it never happens again. 

I'm concerned I haven't heard from Con Edison or NYSEG when I have 65,000 constituents without electricity. I will hold our public utilities accountable."
 

At the time of this statement, Senator Murphy was driving into Putnam County to get answers personally. NYSEGs website had overloaded and was unavailable. It was not displaying any ETRs (estimated time of restoration) for the various outages prior it going offline.
