Murphy, Westchester Medical Center, highlight National Burn Awareness Week

VALHALLA, NY - In recognition of the skilled treatment provided by the Burn Center at Westchester Medical Center, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, Senator Terrence Murphy presented the unit with a New York State Senate Resolution on Thursday, February 4th.  

The presentation was held as part of National Burn Awareness week, which began February 1st and runs through February 7th. This year marks the 30th anniversary of National Burn Awareness Week, which was developed by the National Burn Association to promote burn awareness and prevention particularly among high-risk groups, such as children and seniors. The Association will be working in working in conjunction with the National Scald Prevention Campaign to provide information on scalding.

In presenting the Senate Proclamation Senator Murphy said, "As the only Burn Center between New York City and north to the Canadian border, Westchester Medical Center offers patients hope for survival. Each year, thanks to the staff's personalized care and intensive rehabilitation programs, hundreds of patients get a second chance at life. I am proud to present Burn Center Service Director Joseph Turkowski, M.D., and his critical care team with this resolution recognizing the life-saving care they provide."

Located at 100 Woods Road in Valhalla, The 10-bed Burn Center at Westchester Medical Center provides optimal patient care in a reduced-risk, comfortable environment. The Burn Center maintains a team of highly trained and dedicated burn/critical care nurses providing a full range of services from intensive care through rehabilitation, with special attention to the individual's physical, emotional and social needs.

The Burn Center at Westchester Medical Center is also home to the regional Advanced Wound Therapy and Hyperbaric Center, treating burn victims, as well as people with a wide variety of injuries and wounds patients.
