SENATOR CROCI BILL SAFEGUARDS INTEGRITY OF MILITARY ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Hauppauge, NY – Senator Thomas Croci (R, C, I – Sayville), Chair of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Veterans, and Military Affairs, announces the New York State Senate has passed a bill to preserve the absentee ballots of military service members.

Senator Croci’s bill, S2939, provides that in the event a service member who has cast an absentee ballot dies in combat before the date of the scheduled election, their ballot shall still be counted towards the election for which it was cast. In a Presidential election year with primaries still underway, this measure will ensure that the almost 10,000 American troops currently serving in Afghanistan will have their absentee ballots protected.

"Many early voting jurisdictions nationwide already count ballots of deceased voters.  This bill seeks to make certain that the integrity of the votes of those who have given up their lives for our right to vote is upheld," said Senator Croci.

The bill will be sent to the Assembly.
