On Korean American Day, Senator Stavisky Celebrates Unanimous Passage of Resolution

Flushing, NY—The Senate unanimously passed Senator Toby Ann Stavisky’s resolution yesterday that would proclaim January 13 as Korean American Day in the State of New York. The date was chosen to commemorate the first Korean immigrants arriving in Hawaii in 1908.

The bi-partisan legislative resolution was co-sponsored by every Senator, demonstrating a commitment to acknowledging and honoring the contributions of Korean Americans in United States history.

“The contributions Korean Americans have made in United States and New York State history span every area of society.” Senator Toby Ann Stavisky said. “Many Korean Americans have chosen to live and work all over Queens, including in my district, further enriching the fabric of life in our city, state and country. When the United States Congress declared January 13th as Korean American Day, it seemed only right for New York State to echo the decision. We are, after all, home to the second largest number of Korean-owned businesses in the country. In fact, more than 100,000 Korean Americans live in New York City. I am thrilled to pass Korean American Day as my first resolution this year and truly recognize and celebrate all that Korean Americans have done for our state.”
