(Albany, New York) – Senator Todd Kaminsky issued the following statement today after Governor Cuomo’s announcement on ethics and campaign finance reforms in New York State.
“People are screaming for ethics reform, and it is our duty to repair our lax campaign finance laws. In this year’s budget, Senate Republicans carved out $40 million to fund charter schools and were awarded with a $1.5 million independent expenditure that was used to spread lies about my record and candidacy. The $40 million should have been used to help Long Island school districts. I stand ready to work with the Democrats and Republicans to strengthen laws governing independent expenditures and to strengthen disclosure requirements for corporations. These are necessary steps to give New Yorkers the government they deserve.”
