Senator Avella Announces Nearly Half a Million in Project BOOST Funding for 44 Schools

Queens, NY   -   Senator Avella announced that 44 schools in his district will receive Project BOOST (Building Options and Opportunities for Students) funding this year.

“Project BOOST is a phenomenal program that allows schools to create afterschool  and in in-school extracurricular activities that would have otherwise not been possible. Many of our schools are strapped for funding, and it really makes a big difference when they get a little extra. Studies show that students who attend afterschool activities benefit tremendously from that involvement, and, because of Project BOOST, more schools will be able to establish these extracurricular programs,” said State Senator Tony Avella.

Project BOOST is one of the Center for Educational Innovation’s (CEI) programs that services schools throughout the City, allowing them to create enriching experiences for students. Schools have discretion over how to use the funding, whether it be arranging cultural trips, creating an afterschool play, or any of the unique ways that schools have used the funding to create extracurricular activities. The money for Project BOOST was allocated in the state budget.
