Senator Avella Asks Sanitation To Take More Dramatic Action on Illegal “Cash For Cars” Signs

Queens, NY – For months, based on reports from constituents, Senator Tony Avella has asked the Department of Sanitation (DOS) to take enforcement action against the unsightly and illegal “Cash-For-Cars” signs that have begun to plague New York City streets.

“DOS has always responded that they investigated the specific locations I forwarded to them,” said Avella.  “And they will research who are the culprits and issue appropriate fines.”

However, due to this ever increasing illegal activity, Senator Avella has asked DOS to take a more comprehensive enforcement approach.

Surprising, while on his way to a on-site meeting this past Thursday, Senator Avella observed employees of “And 1 Towing” posting the “Cash for Cars” signs.

The signs, which are extremely hard to remove, can leave City property with permanent and unsightly damages. In a letter addressed to DOS Commissioner Garcia, Senator Avella asked for immediate attention to the matter. Along with the letter, Senator Avella sent photos of the company’s truck and the employee in the act of posting the sign to the light post on 180^th Street and Hillside Avenue.

“Every community in New York understands how much of an eyesore these illegal signs can be. Residents have complained for years about these signs but very little, if anything, is ever done. Now that we have identified one of the companies posting these signs, I hope Sanitation can take aggressive action to put an end to this horrible trend,” said Senator Avella.
