Larkin Announces $250,000 Grant To Restore Historic Town Hall In Stony Point
April 5, 2016
Senator Bill Larkin (R,C,I- 39th District) is pleased to announce that he has secured a $250,000 state grant to help restore Stony Point’s historic Town Hall. The funding comes from a State and Municipal (SAM) funding grant and is one of several SAM grants that the Senator has recently obtained for the region.
“The historic Town Hall on East Main Street is an important part of the region’s past and a symbol of the small town character that we are working hard to preserve,” said Senator Larkin. “This funding will make the building a safe and functional town center while also preserving the town’s rich and unique history.”
"I met with Senator Larkin in January and made it clear that these repairs were critical for us to continue to provide important services to our residents and a safer work environment for Town employees," said Supervisor Jim Monaghan. "We simply would not be able to afford these necessary repairs without Senator Larkin's willingness to fight to get this money."
"Senator Larkin understands how hard it is for towns like Stony Point to afford major projects without borrowing or raising taxes." said Councilman Tom Basile who together with Councilman Karl Javenes brought the condition of the historic building to the Senator's attention in December. "Once again, Senator Larkin has seen a need and delivered for our community. Now this important project will be completed without additional expense to our taxpayers."
Senator Larkin noted that the building is more than 100 years old and has survived fire and undergone several renovations, but is in dire need of repair and restoration for it to continue to be functional. Repairs that the grant money will help fund include: chimney and foundation repointing; roof replacement; siding repairs; newer windows; exterior painting; exterior lighting, a new HVAC System; and several other additional improvements.
