Larkin Secures Funds To Replace City Of Newburgh Bridge

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C-I, 39^th District) is pleased to announce that he secured $2.3 million dollars for the replacement of the Lake Drive Bridge over Quassaick Creek. Due to Senator Larkin’s advocacy, the project has now been accelerated as part of the New York State Department of Transportation’s Five-year Capital Plan.

“I am pleased that I could help secure this important transportation funding for the City of Newburgh and expedite this project with the Department of Transportation,” said Senator Bill Larkin. “This project will help to improve the quality of life for local residents and enhance economic growth in the City.  I look forward to working closely with Mayor Kennedy as this project progresses.”

"This essential infrastructure funding is a Godsend for the City of Newburgh at a time when we need it the most,” said Newburgh Mayor Judy Kennedy. “Senator Larkin continues to deliver time and again for our city and I thank him from the bottom of our heart for his ongoing efforts to provide funding for major infrastructure needs in Newburgh.”

The Lake Drive Bridge, which leads to the main entrance of the Lake Street Apartments, closed in 2015 and has been operating as a temporary span since last December. The bridge was closed after culverts under it began to rust and collapse.

“This is an important step towards improving the City’s infrastructure,” said Senator Larkin.  “Revitalizing our region’s infrastructure and securing the resources needed to fix our roads will go a long way towards making our region more attractive to future economic development, and most importantly, will improve the safety and lives of area residents.”
