Senator Larkin Secures Funds To Purchase A New Street Sweeper For The Village Of Washingtonville, Town Of Blooming Grove And The Village Of South Blooming Grove
October 12, 2016
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C-I, 39th District) announced today that he has secured $250,000 for the Village of Washingtonville to purchase a new street sweeper that will be shared with the Town of Blooming Grove and the Village of South Blooming Grove. The shared agreement between the three municipalities will allow for the purchase of only one street sweeper, which will save taxpayers $500,000.
The funding was secured by Senator Larkin through the State and Municipal Facilities Program and will be administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. The new sweeper will allow all three municipalities to perform numerous services including road sweeping of debris and salt, the cleaning out of clogged catch basins, and collecting curbside leaf piles.
“It is critically important that we preserve our local roads so that residents are able to safely travel and go about their daily lives,” said Senator Larkin. “I am proud to have secured this critical state funding to allow the Village of Washingtonville, Town of Blooming Grove and the Village of South Blooming Grove to properly take care of their roads.”
“Senator Larkin has been a consistent advocate of our local Towns and Villages,” said Robert Fromaget, Town of Blooming Grove Supervisor. “I would like to thank the Senator for, once again, coming through for us and providing the funding for a street sweeper to be shared by our community to ensure our Town has safer roads.”
“The funding that Senator Larkin has secured came at the perfect time as our current sweeper has been imperiled by several damaging storms, including Hurricane Irene,” said David Heintz, Village of Washingtonville Mayor. “The new street sweeper will be a welcomed addition to our Department of Public Works and a game changer during our budget process. With the news of this grant, we will be able to free up $30,000 a year that we had initially budgeted for a bond payment for the next seven years. Without this grant, we could have faced a tax increase during a tough time for our residents.”
“Thank you to Senator Larkin for his hard work and dedication in securing $250,000 for the purchase of a much-needed street sweeper that our Village is proud to share with the Village of Washingtonville and the Town of Blooming Grove,” said Rob Jeroloman, Village of South Blooming Grove Mayor. “At a time when our area is consistently being burdened with terrible weather, we could not be happier to have the use of equipment to properly maintain our roads.”
