Senator Bill Larkin (R-C-I, 39th District) is pleased to announce that
he secured a $275,000 grant for the Town of Monroe Highway Department
to replace a street sweeper that recently caught fire and was
classified as a total loss.
"Losing a piece of major equipment in the middle of a fiscal year is a
real hardship on Monroe's Highway budget. That's why I was pleased
to secure a State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM) grant to help Monroe stay on track," said Sen. Larkin. "Replacing a street sweeper also helps maintain the clean and healthy quality of life Monroe residents deserve."
“We would not have been able to afford to pay for another sweeper,” said John Scherne, Town of Monroe Highway Superintendent. “Without the help of Senator Larkin, Monroe taxpayers would without a doubt be seeing an increase in their tax bill. With the new MS4 guidelines in place for local municipalities, not having a street sweeper could have had an immeasurable impact on our residents.”
Earlier this year the rear engine of the Town of Monroe street sweeper caught fire and was described as a total loss. Officials from the Town of Monroe turned to Senator Bill Larkin for help.
