October 14, 2016
Senator William J. Larkin, Jr. (R-C-I, 39th District) announced today that he secured a $50,000 grant for the Orange County District Attorney's Office. The grant, from the Federal Edward Byrne/Justice Assistance Grant Program, must be used for new drug, violence and crime prevention programs.
The Orange County Drug Task Force will use this grant to fight opioid addiction, an epidemic that is running rampant across New York State.
"Now more than ever, our law enforcement agencies need all the assistance they can get,” said Senator Larkin. “I am pleased that I could do my part in securing funds that provide the District Attorney's office with the tools they need to help fight the scourge of drug addiction."
Orange County District Attorney Dave Hoovler specified that the grant will be used to purchase chemical testing equipment. “I want to thank Senator Larkin from the bottom of my heart for securing this grant”, said Hoovler. “Senator Larkin continues to bring home funds and other resources to help combat our fight against this Opioid epidemic.”
Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois works closely and tirelessly with the Orange County District Attorney’s office. DuBois stated, "I'm thankful to Sen. Larkin for securing these types of grants, which help make Orange County a safer place to live and raise a family"
The Orange County Drug Task Force is comprised of members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, several local police departments including the Town of Crawford and Village of Washingtonville and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
