Statement From Senator Bill Larkin On Opioid And Heroin Epidemic
June 13, 2016
“As a member of the New York State Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction, I have worked tirelessly to address this epidemic. We sought feedback from the public, local law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and other community stakeholders. We used a multi-faceted approach when discussing real solutions and recommendations that can be found in our full Senate Task Force report. Our report provides a comprehensive solution that addresses treatment, prevention, and law enforcement needs.
The Senate has acted and passed legislation that our communities have asked for and desperately need. I call on the Assembly to pass this common sense legislation. Those doing their best to fight this issue need additional tools. We must all do our part to combat what has become one of the deadliest epidemics of our time.
The statistics on overdoses here at home are staggering and scary to our entire community. As a parent and grandparent, the issue hits home every moment of every day for me. I will never stop fighting for our children’s future.”
