Senator Stewart-Cousins Honors Dr. Marsha Gordon as 35th District's 2017 Woman of Distinction

Albany, NY - Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins nominated Dr. Marsha Gordon, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Business Council of Westchester, as her recipient for the 2017 Women of Distinction Award.

This annual honor is bestowed upon exceptional women in New York State whose outstanding contributions have improved the lives of the people in their communities and throughout the state. The award is conferred to recipients by the New York State Senate and was given to Gordon’s representative during a ceremonial service in Albany on Tuesday.

“Marsha is an extraordinary and dynamic leader with over twenty-five years of experience,” said Senator Stewart-Cousins. “She leads the largest and most prominent business group in Westchester County, and she has done an excellent job connecting local businesses with other community groups and public servants to ensure they have access to the resources they need. She’s a model businesswoman who brings life and energy to any project she’s involved with - and I’m proud to honor her here today.”

The Business Council of Westchester (BCW) is a group dedicated to helping local businesses market, grow, and thrive. BCW regularly liaises with elected officials and local organizations to facilitate communication between government bodies and local business owners. It also serves as a support system and resource center for the business community and government leaders alike.

“This statewide honor from the New York State Senate is a highlight of my professional career,” said Dr. Marsha Gordon. “Being recognized for my leadership in business and the community is even more meaningful because it is bestowed by Senator Stewart-Cousins, a leader with whom I have had the opportunity to partner over many years.”

Marsha is known throughout Westchester as an authority on the county’s businesses and business climate. Executives, entrepreneurs, and business leaders frequently confer with her to promote their businesses and to push for policies to spur greater economic development. Marsha embraces diversity in the business world and has served as a catalyst for a number of important projects and programs. Under her leadership, the Business Council of Westchester has run the largest business exposition in the region and has brought thousands of businesses together to network and encourage economic growth.

Marsha earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brooklyn College, a Master of Business Administration from Marist College, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Pace University. She previously worked as President and Chief Executive Officer at MetroPool, a nonprofit group that promotes alternative options for transportation in both Fairfield and the Hudson Valley. She serves on the executive committee on the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council and is a board member of the Business Council of New York State, the Westchester-Putnam Workforce Investment Board, and Yonkers STRIVE. The New York Association for Reliable Energy and the Food Bank of Westchester have also recognized her exceptional leadership abilities and honored her for the many contributions she has made to the county and the state.
