SENATOR HOYLMAN APPLAUDS DECISION TO LANDMARK NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY INTERIORS

Hoylman: The New York Public Library’s exteriors and interiors alike are woven into the very fabric of our city. Today marks an important milestone in protecting this timeless institution as a beacon of knowledge, culture, and exploration.”

NEW YORK – State Senator Brad Hoylman (D, WF-Manhattan) released the following statement today lauding the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) for its decision to designate two of the New York Public Library’s (NYPL) interior spaces as New York City landmarks. In May, Senators Brad Hoylman and Liz Krueger sent a letter to Chair Meenakshi Srinivasan urging the LPC to recognize “the Rose Main Reading Room and the Bill Blass Public Catalog Room as the historic interior spaces that our city has come to treasure in our beloved library.” This letter followed a request by Senator Hoylman in 2013 to designate the Rose Main Reading Room.

State Senator Brad Hoylman said: “The preservation of the Rose Main Reading Room and the Bill Blass Public Catalog Room is a tremendous victory for generations of New Yorkers living today and those still to come. The New York Public Library’s exteriors and interiors alike are woven into the very fabric of our city. Today marks an important milestone in protecting this timeless institution as a beacon of knowledge, culture, and exploration. My thanks go to the LPC for its historic decision today and to the New York Public Library for its commitment to preserving some of our city’s most significant and cherished spaces.”
