SENATOR HOYLMAN HOSTS FIRST ANNUAL SENIOR RESOURCE FAIR
July 27, 2017
NEW YORK – State Senator Brad Hoylman (D, WF-Manhattan) hosted his first annual senior resource fair Tuesday at the Theresa Lang Student and Community Center at the New School. More than 500 seniors from Senator Hoylman’s district attended the event, which featured representatives from more than thirty nonprofits and city and state agencies, including the offices of New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, New York City District Attorney Cyrus Vance, AARP, and the New York Legal Assistance Group.
Participating organizations offered free services for seniors, caregivers, and family members such as assistance with affordable housing, legal advice, enrollment in government programs, and blood pressure and health screenings. Hoylman’s office also provided attendees with free reusable bags and a senior resource guide to help identify important benefits, services, and information across the community.
State Senator Brad Hoylman said: “Despite the myriad programs available to seniors in New York many go unused just from lack of awareness. My resource fair is an opportunity to correct this problem, bringing together services and seniors under one roof. Moreover, with the possibility of steep federal cuts to a host of important services, events like these are essential to ensure seniors’ physical, social and economic needs are being met.”
