SENATOR HOYLMAN SWORN IN FOR THIRD TERM IN ALBANY

Hoylman: Access to the courts, judicial independence and reform of justice system all threatened by Trump Administration."

ALBANY – State Senator Brad Hoylman (D, WF-Manhattan) has been sworn in for his third term and was appointed today as the Ranking Democratic Member on the Senate Judiciary Committee for the 2017 Legislative Session. He was also made a member of the Senate Democratic Conference leadership team by being named Deputy Floor Leader.

State Senator Brad Hoylman said: “I’m honored to be sworn into my third term representing the 27th District of Manhattan and to have been appointed as the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee by Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. Open access to the courts, judicial independence and reform of our justice system are pressing issues. This role is especially important because the new federal administration coming into power may seek to limit our constitutional rights. We must fight to ensure our judicial system is a fair and impartial beacon of justice for all New Yorkers, which I’ll be able to do as the new leading Democrat on the Judiciary Committee and as a member of the Senate Democratic Conference leadership team.”

Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said, “I am pleased that Senator Brad Hoylman will be serving as the Ranking Member on the Senate Judiciary Committee as well as on the Committee on Investigations and Government Operations. I am also thrilled to welcome him as a new member of the Democratic Conference Leadership, where he will serve as Deputy Floor Leader. Senator Hoylman will be an important leader for issues such as Raising the Age and the Child Victims Act. I thank Brad for his dedication to cleaning up Albany and protecting the rights of all New Yorkers.”

Hoylman was also appointed Ranking Member on the Investigations and Government Operations Committee, and as a member of the Codes; Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks & Recreation; Environmental Conservation; and Health committees.

State Senator Brad Hoylman represents New York’s 27th Senate District, which includes Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen/Clinton, the Upper West Side, Midtown, Columbus Circle, Times Square and the East Village.
