OLEAN – Held annually, the NYSSMA Major Organization Adjudication Festival is the crowning competition for New York State high school bands and choirs, bringing together the best of the best in musical competition.
At the 2016 NYSSMA festival, the Olean High School band performed level-four selections, receiving a Silver Award, and the select choir received its highest score in the past seven years, winning a “Gold with Distinction” rating. To recognize this extraordinary accomplishment, Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I- 57th District) presented members of the musical ensembles with New York State Resolutions in their honor.
“Learning an instrument or perfecting vocal talents through music education requires immense time and personal dedication. The skills required to perform at the highest level must be honed with hours of practice. It is remarkable that both programs at Olean High School performed so well,” said Senator Young.
“These gifted musicians should be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished. Whether they pursue careers in music, or simply enjoy the passion during their high school career, they can proudly say they are among the best in the state,” said Senator Young.
